Both Belts On The Line At UFC 75: Champion vs Champion

UFC President Dana White confirmed after the event that the showdown between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (27-6) and PRIDE FC Middleweight Champion Dan Henderson (22-5) at UFC 75 will be a unification bout. Seems like there was miscommunication or human error that caused all the confusion. There was also an incorrect report that surfaced recently, indicating just Rampage’s title would be at stake since the fight was taking place inside the Octagon. Not the case, according to White, who says that the 205-pound fight at the 02 Arena in London, England, on September 8 is designed to declare an undisputed world champion. For Henderson, it is the opportunity to become the most decorated mixed martial arts champion in the history of the sport. With a win, he’d hold a gaudy three titles in two different divisions in two separate promotions. “Hollywood” Henderson also holds the PRIDE FC welterweight belt — the equivalent of the UFC middleweight title (185-pound limit). Rampage will finally get the opportunity to fight for the Japanese title, an organization for which he fought in from 2001-2006 and racked up nearly 20 appearances. Without question now that it is confirmed from White that this will be a unification bout it appears that the UFC 75 main event will indeed be an historic event. For the first time ever a sole champion will be recognized as the best in the world at a respective weight class — something that seemed like a pipe dream just a year ago. And Henderson is on the verge of becoming a very, very busy man. As much as i hate rampage Jackson i really don't want to see Dan Henderson holding the light heavyweight belt in the UFC, the middleweight belt in pride, and the welterweight belt in pride so I'm torn on who i want to win so leave me a comment and tell me what you think!

Why don't you want Henderson to hold all three belts? If he is truly the most dominant fighter in all three classes across the two organizations, or even if he isn't, his holding all three belts should make for some really good bouts forthcoming. But I think he's at least earned a shot at the light heavyweight UFC title.

Given that he's defeated Silva, one of, if not THE most intense fighters in all of Pride, I think I might rather see Dan hold the LHW belt in the UFC as opposed to Rampage who, in my opinion, just got in a lucky shot on Chuck during their last encounter in the octagon. Let us not forget that Silva looked like a monster up against Dan, and Henderson still came away the clear victor.

But what it all boils down to is that the very best fighter in a given weight class should indeed hold that belt until someone better comes along to snatch it away from him. And if Dan's the man at 205 in the UFC, then so be it.

I can't wait to see Dan and Rampage'get it on! And to the victor go the spoils.

Down with boxing!

That is a very good point you make, however the reason I don't want Dan Henderson to hold all three belts in two weight classes and two different organizations is because he would be the most highly decorated fighter in all of mixed martial arts EVER! And i personally dont think he is the best fighter in the PRIDE middleweight or the UFC light heavyweight. I dont think that a pride fighter(including "rampage")deserves to come into the UFC and have a shot at the title! If he is the best fighter and he wants to prove then let him work his way up the food chain like the men already in the UFC, however back on subject "rampage" got that shot and he took the belt but i dont think it should happen again! If "rampage" wants to defend his belt then put him in the ring with the top contenter in the UFC NOT PRIDE! You do make a GREAT point and thank you for the comment, BUT i am still torn on who i want to win!
